About
codeFL (Coding as a Foreign Language) is a Circle U. initiative that brings together educators interested in how coding is taught and learned outside traditional computing disciplines.
As programming becomes increasingly important across higher education, many educators are introducing coding within subject areas such as the life sciences, chemistry, geography, physics, and bioinformatics. codeFL provides a space for sharing perspectives, exploring common challenges, and developing a broader understanding of coding education across disciplinary boundaries.
Our vision is to support a growing community of educators who are interested in helping students develop confidence in programming, computational thinking, and the effective use of digital tools within their chosen fields.
codeFL stands for Coding as a Foreign Language, recognising that for many students programming is learned much like a new language: developing unfamiliar ways of thinking, communicating, and solving problems beyond the boundaries of their home discipline.
